But I thought AGW was real...
As reported the UK Daily Mail, AGW is, as I always knew, a farce. From the man himself, Phil Jones, there has been no warming since '95. Let the IPCC stick that in their pipe and smoke it. Maybe Dr. Pachauri would like to rub it in his face like asbestos talc. There is no anthropogenic global warming. There never has been. I'm going to enjoy watching Algore, the Obama administration, and the Left in general gyrate uncontrollably over this one.
Medina-gate, part deux
I had the opportunity to listen to the Medina-Beck interview. It sounds worse for Medina than it reads on paper. I've listened to Beck long enough to know when he's being sincere and when he's being sarcastic, and he was being straight with Medina when he asked about her status as a Truther. Her first answer was definitely the response you would expect someone who just got blind-sided, but the second time he asked her response was she "hadn't formed an opinion," and then proceeded on to say that people should question their government. What? You don't have an opinion? Either she IS a truther, and did a really bad job of covering it, or (worse) she doesn't have a concept of the whole Truther movement, which is that the Bush administration had a direct hand in orchestrating 9/11. It's not about questioning the government; it's a particularly distasteful flavor of Bush Derangement Syndrome, especially given the vast bulk of evidence that says fire, not explosives, brought the towers down. The point is, does she live under a rock? Joe Pags, of WOAI in San Antonio, made an excellent point last Friday. We share the longest border in the country with Mexico, which is notoriously porous. Anyone running for governor should have some thoughts on security and terrorism. I agree.

The End for Debra Medina....???
Debra Medina, who up until this evening was my favored candidate for Texas Governor, inserted her foot up to her hip in her mouth on Glenn Beck, opening up some doubt on whether or not she is a Truther. I am exceedingly frustrated with her, but completely hacked off with Beck. The transcript of the interview can be found here. Ms. Medina was giving an excellent interview until Beck dropped the Truther bomb. She could have responded with something to the effect of "The federal government had no involvement in 9/11," and gone on her way to clobber Perry on eminent domain and HPV vaccines, but to her credit, she responded with a rather poorly thought out answer about how people should question their government. Totally consistent with her political philosophy, and on any other topic would have passed without a thought. But this was 9/11, and she opened the door to the belief that she was a Truther, and Beck hammered her on it. Beck shut the door on her, even as she attempted to explain her answer. Question: Medina is a candidate for Texas Governor. How is 9/11, or Truthers, relevant to that office? What point was Beck trying to make? He made no bones about that fact that he likes Perry in the transcipt. I have to ask...did he intentionally torpedo Medina? Why pull the rug out from under a Tea Party candidate? Her polling has skyrocketed, for good reason, in the last 4 weeks. She pulled even with KBH, possibly even pulled ahead of her. Was Perry, the 10-year incumbent, feeling a little heat? I supposed we'll never know the answers. Medina, in full damage-control mode, later released a statement abjectly denying she was a Truther, but it may be too late. Time will tell. I do have this to say; Beck, stay out of Texas business. I will not watch your show, buy your your print media, listen to your radio show, or patronize your advertisers (especially Goldline!), and I will encourage others to do the same.

Rape on the rise in Haiti
It's been over a month now since the horrific earthquake in Haiti. Now, from the UK Independent and the Canadian Press, rape and other violence against women is on the rise. Crimes against women have a shady past in Haiti. Rape was only criminalized in 2005, after President Aristide was exiled. Domestic abuse is still a "family matter". Put simply, women are and have long been second-class citizens in Haiti. And yet...where is the MSM? Where is the Obama administration? Recall for a moment the false rumors of rape and anarchy in New Orleans following Katrina and the reporting of it as fact by the MSM. If you believed the MSM reporting, the whole of New Orleans had reverted to some primitive, tribal state, with people plundering and murdering at will. Yet none of it actually happened, and the Bush administration was vilified for it. Fast forward to 2010. A search of the NY Times showed not a single article on the subject. Why? Is this not fit news to print? Why can the international media pick up on this, but not ours? And why not a single word from the Obama administration? Is this not worthy of even a minute of his time and attention?

How much is $9,000,000,000,000?
So it seems that the Obama administration can't even make the most critical of projections correctly. Instead of the already outrageous $7 trillion (with a T) deficit over the next ten years, they got it wrong (again...just like the porkulus, just like health care 'reform', just like cap and tax). Instead, it's actually $9 trillion. So, how much is a trillion dollars? Let's start small. We can all easily picture $1,000, since that's a mortgage or rent payment. $1 million is even better. We know we're doing well if we have $1,000,000. $1 billion is harder to imagine, but not impossible. Bill Gates is an excellent example of a billionaire. But $1 trillion...the brain starts to shut down. To give us some perspective, the federal government collects just over $1 trillion per year in individual income taxes. That's about $3,300 per person. Now, imagine 9 TIMES that....almost $30,000 per person, per year. THAT'S $9 trillion. Crazy, huh?

The Elephant in the Room
Why is no one, not rank and file GOP members, or the RNC leadership, or the conservative blogosphere, or talk radio, challenging the Constitutionality of HR 3200? We should be screaming from the rooftops every day the fact that the Constitution does NOT give unlimited authority to Congress to spend tax money on social welfare programs, or even a limited authority. Time and again, throughout our history, charity funded by the public coffers has been struck down, either before its passage by wise Congressmen or after in the courts. As a reminder, I offer up the following:
"If Congress can employ money indefinitely to the general welfare, and are the sole and supreme judges of the general welfare, they may take the care of religion into their own hands; they may appoint teachers in every State, county and parish and pay them out of their public treasury; they may take into their own hands the education of children, establishing in like manner schools throughout the Union; they may assume the provision of the poor; they may undertake the regulation of all roads other than post-roads; in short, every thing, from the highest object of state legislation down to the most minute object of police, would be thrown under the power of Congress.... Were the power of Congress to be established in the latitude contended for, it would subvert the very foundations, and transmute the very nature of the limited Government established by the people of America." - James Madison

Fresh from the WSJ, the House has scrapped its plans for $550 million in new jet planes to fly around the world like rock stars on our dime. We did this, America. Keep it up. We can do the same with ObamaCare, Cap and Tax, and every hare-brained, un-Constitutional scheme that oozes out of the Obama administration.

Health Care and the 47 Million: A Breakdown
The absurd figure being tossed about by the Socialists in an effort to ram socialized health care and rationing down our collective throat are the "47 million uninsured Americans." Before I break that figure down, let's examine it just on its face. One, some simple math says that 253 million Americans have insurance. That's a lot of people to punish. The other key word here is "uninsured". It's not "47 million Americans with no access to health care at all", but that's the way the Socialists are selling it, as if one necessarily leads to the other: No insurance = no health care. That in itself is false and a lie. And now it's time for the breakdown:
20%, 9.4 million, aren't even Americans; they are non-U.S. Citizens (1)
43%, 20 million, earn enough to buy insurance but are healthy and choose not to (2)
25%, 11 million, already qualify for government-subsidized health care but choose, for whatever reason, not to get it (3)
12%, 6.6 million, those who make too much to qualify for Medicare but truly don't make enough to purchase private insurance.
So, if we are to do anything to reduce the number of uninsured, we should be targeting that last 6.6 million. Or better yet, let's understand why health care costs have skyrocketed (Hint: it's not 'greedy' doctors or insurance companies). Let's not punish the rest of American for a lie.

State of the Stimulus
So what have we gotten for our trillions of dollars in stimulus? Nothing, apparently. The fine folks at Innocent Bystanders have plotted out the actual unemployment figures vs the Obama economic team's pie-in-the-sky predictions. Not surprisingly, not only were Obama's predictions wrong, the stimulus has failed, badly:

Now, granted, Obama has since said unemployment might top 10% this year, as if that makes it all better. Joe "The Fall Guy" Biden has come out and said they guessed wrong. Guessed wrong?! When it comes to putting my kids into debt to the Chinese by TRILLIONS, no had better be guessing.

So, I fired off a letter to Chairman Steele this morning, after finding out about the 8 Republican traitors (thanks to Ms. Malkin for compiling that). that voted for the steaming pile that is Obama's carbon tax. I fully expect it to dropped into the bit bucket (flames to dev/null and such), but as the title says, it can't hurt.

I'm surprised you keep a e-mail address publicly available, as I'm sure you get plenty of hate mail. The following will probably read rough and acerbic, but sometimes such is the nature of truth. The GOP leadership needs to, in short, grow some stones and a spine. The last few months have seen the Obama administration waste literally TRILLIONS of dollars on "stimulus" which has failed utterly to stimulate anything other the national debt and Obama's quest for power, the characterization of Constitution-loving conservatives as "extremists" (read: potential threats to the Obama regime), and now this monstrous, demon-from-hell carbon tax bill, based on bogus pseudo-science, that passed because 8 REPUBLICANS voted yes. The GOP can't even keeps its own people in line, and, as the GOP chairman, the buck stops with you.
I supported your run for GOP chairman, because you seemed like a solid conservative. The problem is, you're a nice guy. Under other circumstances, that wouldn't be an issue. But now is not the time for nice guys. When Obama and his socialist ilk are fulfilling 80 years of running roughshod over the Constitution, it is not the time to be nice. Obama has weaknesses; he can't stand up to truthful, fact-based criticism for long. You must shine the withering light of Truth on him; everywhere he goes, you must be there waiting. Stop trying to parse the citizens of the country like the Democrats do; educate them. People know Liberty when they see it and hear it, and believe me, people WANT to hear Liberty shouted from every rooftop. Hispanics want to hear Liberty; Asians want to hear Liberty; You KNOW blacks want to hear Liberty; AMERICANS want to hear Liberty. Give it to them. It's Tea Party Day!
Well, I must admit, I'm not the most regular of bloggers. Darn that job and family responsibility...
So it's Tea Party Day here in the Austin-area, and I've taken hard-earned time off to be there. Like A1, yeah, it's that important. Pictures of the event will be posted, so stay tuned.
In the mean time, to whet your appetite, our lovely Big Government public servants have declared political war on conservatives everywhere, declaring us "right wing extremists" and "terrorists" for entertaining "anti-government" sympathies, or "rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority". Every totalitarian regime of the 20th Century used the organs of government to silence its political opponents. It's just amazing to see this come to America, and it seems very convenient that this would be released the day before the Movement to Retake America begin...

Long break is over...
Well, after weathering household sickness and the Nativity season, I'm back. Yeah.
I found this over at New Republic:
“Liberalism wagers that a state... can be strong but constrained – strong because constrained... Rights to education and other requirements for human development and security aim to advance equal opportunity and personal dignity and to promote a creative and productive society. To guarantee those rights, liberals have supported a wider social and economic role for the state, counterbalanced by more robust guarantees of civil liberties and a wider social system of checks and balances anchored in an independent press and pluralistic society” – The New Republic
Absurd, isn't it? Despite being completely unfounded in any of the traditions that founded this country, it's full of logical holes. Let's tear it apart.
1. A state cannot be both strong and constrained. A strong entity seeks to break free of or subvert its constraints, by definition. Otherwise, it is not strong. History shows a strong state will exert its strength and trample on the rights of its subjects, on a continuum from simple self-preservation to the consolidation of maximum power and control in the hands of a few, with the rest being functional chattels of the state
2. If a man is truly free, his personal development and security (physical, social, economic) is his responsibility alone to secure, and is limited only his own innate ability and desire. To suggest that the state has a role in providing for an INDIVIDUAL’S development and security is to admit that a man is NOT free. For men to be free, government must be limited to the protection of the lives and property of the people and enforcement of contacts freely entered into between people.
3. Government cannot counterbalance itself, and strong government inevitably tramples on civil liberties. A “social” system of check and balances, as opposed to the constitutionally defined system, is inherently flawed. Society is fickle and prone to sway by demagogues, and a “pluralistic” society can be set against itself by fear-mongers and people who would exert control over others for personal gain. The press is only as independent as the political attitudes and opinions of its members, and indeed each member’s concept of the role of journalism in society. Should a majority of journalists become aligned with a particular political philosophy, or be of the opinion that it is the journalist’s duty to press for change rather then report events, the press ceases to become independent.

The Day After...
Like all conservatives, I am greatly disappointed by the results of the 2008 elections. A socialist who admits he believes the Constitution is flawed was elected, and the American Left has solidified its position in the House and the Senate. I had my pity party last night.
There are some bright spots though. The Left did not get its coveted filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. A good bit of the chaff hanging onto the Republican Party was finally winnowed.
What we have now is chance to get out the message of conservatism, free of the baggage of RINOs and so-called "moderate Republicans". The GOP must return to its roots: small, non-intrusive government, markets free from the heavy hand of social engineering, and a respect for life. Education is our focus now. To that end, I will do my part, presenting the Essentials of American Liberty in an understandable way.
